After rising from the dead, Jesus told his disciples that they would receive power when they receive the Holy Spirit to be witnesses "in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth" (Acts 1:8). There's an unmistakable pattern in those words—they were to be witnesses right where they lived (Jerusalem), to their closest neighbors (Samaria), extending out to the farthest reaches of the world. Likewise, it is our comission to testify to the life-giving gospel of Jesus locally in our homes and neighborhoods, more broadly to the city of ELgin and globally to the unreached people groups of the world.
LOCAL OUTREACH TO OUR NEIGHBORS
It is our desire to encourage the members of Redeemer Church to be active in sharing the Gospel of Christ with those with whom they come in contact. We encourage one another to be actively involved in their communities, building fruitful, gospel-sharing relationships wherever they live, work and play. A large part of this is the everyday efforts of individual members, showing the grace of God in their lives to others while also seeking to be intentional about sharing the gospel.
We also engage in organized efforts such fianancially supporting and voluneering at the Pregnancy Help Center of Fort Worth, weekly nursing home ministry, Vacation Bible Camp, Backyard Bible Clubs, hosting picnics and games in local parks, participating in community events, engaging in community projects for those in need, Christmas caroling, and helping with inner-city missions and refugee settlement programs. Futhermore, we have rejoiced to commission church planting teams to Provo/Orem Utah, Oklahoma, and commissioned pastors who now serve in churches throughout the U.S.
We firmly believe that salvation, joy and life eternal is found in the gospel of Jesus Christ. That gospel is perhaps best summarized by the Apostle Paul's statement in 1 Corinthians 15:3-4: "I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ Jesus died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures."
GLOBAL OUTREACH TO THE NATIONS
As a church body, we seek to be actively involved in taking the gospel message to the ends of the earth. We believe that as the truth of Scripture is declared, the Holy Spirit is faithful in drawing people to Christ. We hold dear to the promise recorded by the Apostle John: "After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, "Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!" (Revelation 7:9-10).
We believe the promise of that heavenly reality was purchased on the cross, and God is raising up His Church to take the message of this precious promise to the ends of the earth. May our prayers affirm the words of the eighteenth-century missionary, David Brainerd, who cried out "that the kingdom of the dear Savior might come with power, and the healing waters of the sanctuary spread far and wide for the healing of the nations."
We enage in global missions through sending long-term missionaries from our church to serve among unreached people groups, through short-term mission trips to labor along side of those long-term workers, and through the regular prayers for God to grant salvation to people from those unreached groups.
It is our desire that all our adopted overseas missionaries have a team of individuals who aid in particular ways to help keep our body connected to their ongoing ministry and keep these families connected to the Redeemer body life back home. To facilitate this ministry, Redeemer Church has organized Barnabas Missionary Care Teams. Barnabas Teams are small groups of 3-5 people committed to encouragement and advocacy on behalf of Redeemer’s adopted missionaries.
